Theme: God begins His Ministry in Your Family
In February of this year, the LORD granted the PREP Seminars/Workshops its first ministry opportunity. The wife of a Baptist Pastor friend invited us to conduct a 2-series Parenting Seminar in their Church. The second opportunity was conducted in Dumaguete City sponsored by our home Church. The third one was conducted May 30 in Tacloban City at Leyte Park Hotel where 65 participants were equipped and trained. Another one is tentatively scheduled at Cagayan de Oro City sometime in July.
The Lord willing, our goal is to reach out to as many parents as possible, by making contacts with their church pastors/leaders, and letting them see the need to have their Parents equipped and trained to fulfill their parenting roles effectively.
It's said that our order of priority is:
- God
- Family
- Ministry and/or Occupation
- Others
As noted above, our second priority is family and yet it appears that training and/or equipping in order to fulfill our responsibilities well in this 2nd priority is comparatively minimal compared to the 3rd priority. This is something that needs to be rectified, if our families are to be restored to the appropriate order of priority as it should be. Otherwise, our families shall suffer the unwanted consequences, in terms of our children being stunted in their growth and development due to insufficient parental guidance and concern. |

After 35 years of marriage (and 3 children), and 24 years in the Pastoral Ministry, George (an ordained minister) and his wife Pamela, asked the LORD's leading in what ministry He would want them to undertake at this stage of their lives. Based on the workings of the LORD in their lives in years past up to the present, their individual gifting and temperaments, parenting experiences and learning, as well as their in-depth studies on the subject , it appears progressively evident that ministering to the Family, and in particular to Parents as to how to effectively rear their children is the answer. In view of this, the PREP Seminar/Workshop came into being. PREP stands for Positive, Responsible & Effective Parenting.
There is everything to be positive about Parenting. After all, parents have been given the privilege to love, to care for, and to nurture another precious human being made in God's image. Children are God's gift to parents, and it's a joy and a pleasure to see them grow to become mature, responsible, and caring individuals, as we care for them.
Parenting is a great and serious responsibility. It is worth the effort to be responsible in fulfilling its lasting objectives, for the honor and glory of God, the Creator of the Family.
By the grace of God, and by the empowerment of His Holy Spirit, the learning and application of godly principles in parenting our children shall be effective. When our reliance and dependence is upon God, victory is assured.
